Avoiding the curse of the long tail

A few months ago a foundryman told me he had noticed that most art sales came from people who had met the artist, perhaps at an opening, or who somehow connected with the artist in a meaningful way. That's what the blog post, 1000 True Fans, is saying...cultivate and nurture real connections to fans of your art and therefore transform them into micro-patrons. This makes a lot of sense in a world that always seems to be expanding away from personal contact!
